As part of being an IB school we encourage students to demonstrate 'International Mindedness'. At the Maples Academy, we value the diversity of cultures and perspectives that exist in our local, national and global communities to enhance student learning.
This year, the Maples Academy will be having our annual International Mindedness Day on Friday, November 23, 2018. this activity will involve JK-Gr. 8 classes and each class will be learning about a different country. Students and teachers will inquire into the life and culture of citizens from that country and the performing arts.
In Grade One, the student will be focusing on the country of Mexico. Please research and collect information and pictures for the following:
Location in the world, map, and facts - population, capital city, other major cities - Elliot, Arya
History and traditions - Kole, Nathan
Dance and dress - Kayla
Cuisine - food - Elizabeth, Lucas
Artists and artwork - Aiden, Lane
Music and instruments - Santino, Jonathan
Flag of Mexico and language(s) - Hailey Taylor
Famous songs and artists - Madison Hollie
They can use Google Images, Youtube, even books from a library. Information is due on Thursday, November 15. This is a wonderful opportunity to research with your child and we look forward to learning about what they have found out. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
