Party Day!

First, parents, thank you for entrusting your child with me this year. It has been incredibly fun, fast, and memorable. I hope I created a firm, wonderful foundation for their future education.

We finished our last Calendar Wall template and took home the book. We also did our last Minute Math and that came home as well. Then more paperwork was given, the afternoon packages the students worked on after agendas.

Thank you, everyone, for the food and accessory contributions to the party. Everything was delicious and appreciated.

Tomorrow - full uniform and school is done at noon, but feel free to take your child home after the awards and getting report cards.

Happy Summer

Track and Field Day

Today, 4 of our students represented our school at the Dufferin Track Meet. We will get updates tomorrow.

We cleaned out folders today, a year's worth of work across the curriculum. The students sat with very wide eyes at the pile of paperwork they did over the year. Yes, we have been busy, busy busy.

Tomorrow, we will clean out the bins and hand back even more work so be ready for lots of stuff.

Don't forget the party from 1:30-2:30.

Have a great evening.

Greetings:

Today, the students started bringing home notebooks and spelling packages that were used throughout the year.

We had fun playing headbands with animals. This was a great way to ask questions and sum up our unit of biomes.

During Gym, we played at the playground because the gym is off limits for the graduation ceremony.

We also shared our biome flip-books with each other.

Be ready for more paperwork tomorrow. We have been very, very busy this year.

Another Fantastic Day in Grade One

Go Raptors!!! We the North!!

I live streamed the Raptors Celebration so the students could see the massive crowd cheering our team.

We played subtraction Bingo again. The students really love this game.

We learned about scripts today and read 4 scripts in groups. The students chose which one they would read and two presented today. Two more will present tomorrow. Now that it's the end of Grade One, most students should have confidence in their reading skills.

We watched a Bill Nye video about vertebrates. It was cool.

Have a super evening.

Kiki's Kitty

Today, we worked with the sentence 'Kiki's kitty is a(n) ________________ kitty.' The students were tasked with filling in the blank with adjectives from A to Z. This took two days and then we read the responses. Fun times.

We played subtraction Bingo. This makes the students pay attention and look for the answer.

Later, we read and sang our poems we have collected over the year. Lastly, we celebrated July and August Birthdays, including Elizabeth, Hailey and Hollie.

Have a super weekend.

We played a different game in the gym. Let the students share this game and it's details.

Later, we worked on Biome flip-books. They are due Tuesday.

That's it for today.

BBQ Day

Thank you, PTA, for a lovely BBQ today after school. The weather added to the atmosphere allowing many of the children to enjoy water activities courtesy of Mr. Hunt.

Today, we shared one fact for a creature and plant from our Biome research. Some of our flip-books are not finished. Hopefully by Friday.

We looked at adjectives from A-Z. This was fun but still a hard lesson to learn. Why aren't they called adnouns, like adverbs for verbs?

We also had some time at the park after last recess.

GO RAPTORS!

Today, we started to look at adjectives. This is not easy. Sometimes they are beside the word, sometimes not.

We also started our final Math Assessment. We read the whole package, highlighting words.

Later, we wrote letters to Senior Kindergarten students letting them know some of the highlights of Grade One.

We also watched the video about invertebrates and vertebrates because this is connected to Biomes.

We really anticipate fun with Monkey Movers tomorrow 2:35-3:15.

Eye of the Tiger

Thank you, parents, guardians, and friends of Grade One for attending our Spring Concert and supporting our kiddies. They worked very hard memorizing the moves for the song and were so excited to share their hard work.

Today, we worked with coins, adding quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies.

Later, we looked at habitats of wild animals and our own habitats. Our flip-books are slowly coming together.

Have a lovely evening.

IB Assembly

Today, we reflected upon our year at school and showed appreciation for all the activities in which we participated. What a busy school!

We also had our last team activity. These have been organized by Miss Cranfield who never disappoints with exciting community building ideas.

Today, we looked at past, present, and future verbs. This is not easy. Verbs change spelling all the time.

We also worked on our flip books for Biomes.  They are almost complete. The pictures are beautiful and the facts extremely interesting.

We did get to look at fractions again. The students are learning they are part of the whole.

We look forward to finishing our video about Biomes next week and researching about the Savannah.

Good evening:

Today, we continued to work with subtraction word problems, using pictures, numbers and words. This can be a challenge as there are three ways to show answers.

Later, we met our new words of the week after a two-week break because of the Spelling Bee.

Cream – long song gong along belong strong thongs tongs – wrong, among, tongue, sponge

Blue - Sort fort sport torn corn born horn cork pork fork – form, short

Still later, we worked with our Biome Flip books. The students need to have pictures of creatures and plants from Ocean, Freshwater, Polar, and Rainforest Regions along with 3 facts for each. We are learning lots of facts.

Have a super evening.
