Dear Parents:
We started our
Outrageously Organized Unit of Study. Thus far, we have worked on Birthday
Invitations and the information needed for guests to attend. This unit finishes
January 23. Seeing that school starts up again January 7, we will have 7
40-minute time periods to work on a project showcasing the students’
understanding of being organized. In light of this, we will do a project
focused on the food groups - Grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy, meat and
alternatives. They need 5 pictures each for all of these groups. These pictures
will be used to plan four menus for four meals. They will glue the pictures on
plate templates on posters so the pictures should be big, colourful, printed
from Google Images and/or grocery flyers. The students will need to be able to
explain how they know why each item is in that group. They should also know how
much of each should be in each meal. They learned this ‘fist and open hand’
portions from Brittany at Zehrs.
During the holidays,
please allow your child to print pictures from Google images. They can be
coloured pictures or pictures that can be coloured. Thank you for helping to collect
the pictures but NOT doing the work for your child. All the organizing,
labelling, and gluing will be done in class. I have 65cm x 48cm poster boards
here for them to print the title, food group names, label each food, and
portion size. You are welcome to google food portion plate templates to know how much of the plate is taken with each food group.
Happy Holidays!
