Wow, April went fast!

We continue with our minute math which is becoming a highlight of our day. Competing against ourselves to be better than yesterday is fun. Today, we worked with word problems, either answering with normal adding, base ten blocks, cubes, or mental math. This is proving to be a challenge for everyone, which is good. Highlighting the key words, numbers, and deciding how to answer the question takes time.

In Unit, we enjoyed 'The Magical Garden of Claude Monet' written by Laurence Anholt loaned to us by a student in the class. The pictures are beautiful and the story lovely. Thank you.

Have a super evening.

BRRRRRRR!!!

This week's words:

blue - nose, rose, hose, bone, cone, pole, hole, note, broke, smoke

cream - the, that, them, then, this, thin, thud, three, with, math

We worked with these words today. We also did our Minute Math as well as 2 digit regrouping subtraction. We are slowly understanding this concept.

We read the next chapter of Flat Stanley and chuckled that he had to be disguised as a shepherdess to help capture art thieves. Very tied into our Unit.

In our unit time, we started to listen to Claude Monet.

Have a super evening.

20 seconds - washing of hands

That's what we learned today. Then we were silly during Birthday Circle Celebration.

Have an awesome weekend!

Spring is Coming!

Today, we worked with word problems. We read one, underlined the key numbers and words, used a four-square worksheet to answer the questions. This is quite the undertaking but worth the while. Strategies include using tallies, cubes, addition, base ten blocks and mental math.

Later, we finished watching the National Geographic Photography Contest photos of nature. These are fabulous photos by dedicated photographers.

Have a lovely evening.

Dress Down Day

It's always fun to see the casual clothes on dress down day.

Today, we looked at 2 digit subtraction with borrowing. Each student has a 6 page package to practice, practice, and practice some more.

In Unit, we looked at interesting sculptures around the world. They were captivating and created a great discussion. We started to look at National Geographic photographs that are wonderful and capture animals in their habitats.

Have a lovely evening.

Happy Tuesday

I trust everyone had a wonderful four day weekend. We did our pre spelling test and the words are in agendas.

Today, we started a one-week study of symmetry with a work package of assorted pictures such as a sun, house, ladybug, faces, etc. on graph paper.

We read chapter 2 of Flat Stanley and wrote our opinions of Stanley helping mom find her ring down a grate and being mailed to a friend in an envelope to California.

During Unit, we studied paintings on Google from the Group of 7. Celebrating Canada is equally important as celebrating our heritages.

Have a wonderful evening. Please encourage your child to read 15 minutes. We have a new photocopier being installed and it needs to be programmed into everyone's computer. Hopefully tomorrow there will be homework sheets again.
