Good Day

So, today we talked about area. Then the students were tasked with covering their tables with decks of cards, square paper and index cards.

It's Friday!

Today, we counted area in rectangles and various shapes. We also had our Friday Spelling Test and finished our pictures using several spelling words.

In the afternoon, we practiced our dance for the concert and did Cosmic Yoga to follow directions.

Honouring Humboldt

Today, many students wore jerseys to show solidarity with the team that met with tragedy a year ago.

We took a break from measuring objects and shared our understanding of longer and shorter.

In Language, we drew pictures of 1. A farmer with a cart, 2. A starry, starry night, 3. A park with a slide, swing and playhouse, 4. A dart board with 3 darts, or 5. A face with funny ears. The students enjoyed drawing these pictures into simple books.

In Unit, we traced, cut, traced again chameleons to stripe with crayons on paper that is striped with markers the same colors.

Greetings!

Today, the students finished measuring objects in the class using cm/mm. They are learning the difference between the two, that it depends on the length of the measure. 

We worked with our weekly spelling words. 

Gym was fun. They were given a lesson about curling and were able to push the rocks onto the house. It was fun watching them. 

Later, we discussed fact vs opinion for letter regarding favourite things and why they are favourites. 

We also listened to a video about artists - the Magical Garden of Claude Monet and Matisse the King of Colour.

Happy 28th Birthday to my son, David!

We learned about cm/mm measurement and when each should be used. We will measure erasers, short end of desks, paperclips, and three other items in the class.

In Language we had new words
car cart far farm star dart farmer dark park hard
ear dear near hear clear fear tear gear shear spear - I told them 'tear' has two pronunciations depending on the sentence. 'I have a tear in my pants' vs 'I have a tear in my eye.'

In Unit, we read a book by Anholt about Degas and later another about Matisse. Thanks to Kayla's mom for loaning the books to us today. We will watch Youtube videos of others later in the week.
