Good afternoon, folks!

I am sorry, but no photos today. We were ten minutes from recess when we heard a bell that wouldn't stop. I suddenly realized it was the fire alarm and had to quietly and orderly take the children out the front door, across the tarmac, over to the grass and down to the basketball court. The students were very good, quiet, and obedient, which is extremely important in a drill. 

We had been reading a book about ambulances. Please ask your child about air, land, and sea vehicles for emergency services. We also read about nurses and will answer the questions on Monday. 

We wrote a list of pet we have and ones we would like to have. The list was interesting with parrots, turtles, guinea pigs, and tadpoles!

We did more skip counting by 2's even and odd using three colours. Later, we worked on our colour-by-word packages. 

Afternoon recess had to be indoors, the wind was very strong and rain threatened. 

Have a super weekend. Please encourage your child to read the books they chose for the weekend. They also have alphabetical order and matching tools to community workers.

Good afternoon!

Grade one is a very busy class. We tackle the calendar wall every morning and the students are getting much more efficient with the words, numbers, and tallies. 

In our unit, we are reading about community helpers and answering questions regarding their responsibilities and how we can make their jobs easier. Ask your child about fire fighters and escape plans. 

In Math, we used the 100's chart to count even and odd using three colours. 

After Agendas, the students worked on their colouring by word packages. 

Today's photos show the students enjoying recess and each other's company.

What a full day!

We worked on our Calendar page as per the usual. The students are learning the days of the week, using tallies for the number of the day, and having to state greater than/less than every day as well as a number sentence. 

In our Unit of Inquiry, we played Memory with community helpers and their vehicles. Then we drew pictures of three of them. 



Today for homework, the students are to fill in the blanks on a Hundreds Chart. they also need to read a book and record the title in their log. They also can read books from home and the public library where 35 books can be borrowed per visit.

Good afternoon!

Today, the students coloured community helpers and sorted the pages to make a book. Some took the book home to read.

 

In French, they are learning nouns of objects in the class. 

Also, we sorted various objects according to shape, size, and colour.



Later, we worked with nouns and their pictures. 


Fun at recess.

Lastly, we started a home-reading log. Some books can be read alone, others can be enjoyed with a parent, sibling, or guardian. Use the chart to name the book and who did the reading.

Good evening!

Today, we started Journal Writing. It is quite the process, answering the 5 W's in sentence form and with a picture. But the students stayed focused. 



Later, we did some review of skip counting by 10's and 5's. We will move on to 2's even and odd.
