Greetings:
Tomorrow is Pink Day in honour of standing up for the freedom to wear whatever colour we choose. Everyone can and should wear pink.
Today, the students organized their shapes booklets. Some are on display on the class door. They took amazing pictures.
Their inventions are slowly coming together. Thank goodness for duct tape!!!!
Please fill in the trip forms and return them by tomorrow or Friday. I am excited for this little jaunt to a sugar bush.
Have a safe evening.

Hello!
Today, the students started to place and glue their photos of 2d and 3d shapes from their homes and neighbourhood. Hopefully, these are finished tomorrow.
We worked on our inventions. These need to be done by next Wednesday.
We also did a 2 digit by 2 digit addition scavenger hunt. I will let them explain this.

It's the Weekend!
We had our final skate at the arena today. The students have really enjoyed these times, improving their skills over the weeks.
This weekend, students should unleash their photography passion, hunting for objects that are 2D and 3D, collecting enough to choose 10 for a picture book. They should look at pots and pans, linens, toys, sports equipment, electronics and accessories, music stuff, etc. Along with spending time on the prodigy website, this should prove to be fun. The pictures should fit onto half a page allowing for a label of the shape.
Thanks and happy clicking!!!

Greetings!
Parents, let's unleash the photographer in our kids. They are to investigate 2d and 3d shapes around the house - towels, kleenex boxes, covers of books, windows, window blinds, spatulas, etc. Take photos and print them out. Please don't let them be bigger than 3x5 because they will be glued to a poster and labelled.
We continue to think about inventions that are unique, improve the lives of others, and that have a purpose. We will need duct tape, glue, string, wool or other means of securing parts together.
Don't forget tomorrow is our last skate - boohoo.

Back to Normal Today!
We continued to look at 2D and 3D shapes, cutting and pasting the shapes and their names onto boards. We will finish that tomorrow then do some attribute comparisons.
In Literacy, we reviewed words from the past several weeks and visited our challenges.
In Language Arts, we wrote about sports or activities we had to learn and be taught how to do such as skating and biking.
In our Unit, we searched through all the wonderful recyclable goodies sent in to decide what inventions we want to make and what they are for.
Have a lovely evening.

Greetings:
Today, we had the privilege to listen to speeches from the top 9 students here at Maples as well as those from St. Judes. Each student had interesting topics and did very well.
As a result of the speeches, we had only Math and Agenda. Instead of Unit, because of the extended time listening to speeches, we did yoga to move. So, in Math, we started Geometry and were introduced to various 2D and 3d shapes. We will continue to identify basic and more complex shapes such as equilateral, scalene, and isosceles triangles. Challenges are good. This ties into our Invention Unit where the students will have to invent something useful.
Have a super evening.

Happy Valentine's Day!
Enjoy your four day weekend. Be safe.
Today, we finished our Data Management Unit by surveying the 4/5 class as to favourite colour, sport, or snack. We collected tallies, did a pictograph and a bar graph.
A thank you to everyone who contributed to our party today. My goodness, the pencils and snacks! We had fun and were overwhelmed at what was on each plate and in bags.
Have a wonderful four day weekend.

Greetings!
Both Taylor and Arya did us proud with their speeches. Well done for speaking in front of the school on stage. Both were clear and prepared.
We worked on 2 digit by 2 digit addition on flags that need to be coloured and displayed in the hall.
We also chose an invention to research this weekend using Google and Youtube.
Be safe in this really cold weather.
