2018
Dear
Parents and Guardians:
Welcome
to grade one for the academic year 2018-19.
My
name is Marlene Autio. I am excited to be teaching grade 1 at The Maples Academy.
My goals this year are to ensure the safety and happiness of each student
holistically. Encompassed in that safety are the daily lessons in Language
Arts, Math, Unit of Inquiry, as well as the weekly Visual Art lesson, (with Ms.
Doucette). I endeavour to communicate daily on my blog and can be reached via
email at mautio@themaplesschool.com.
As
an IB school, we have the PYP program. There are six units of inquiry (UOI).
Who
We Are – Relationships, Rules and Responsibilities - People around
the
world all have relationships rules and responsibilities.
Where
we are in place and time – We’re Going Prehistoric! Animals can change and
adapt over time.
How
we organize ourselves – Outrageously Organized – People often use organization
as a system to establish order. structures and function of organizations
How
the World Works – Inventions, Innovations and Discovery – Inventions are a
response to challenges and opportunities.
How
we express ourselves – Art Attack – People use art forms to express their culture
Sharing
the Planet – Happy Hoppy Animals – Living things require specific conditions
within a healthy environment to survive.
Please
kindly note that agendas are to be signed daily by parents/guardians. Students are
also encouraged to wear their house colours on Friday to earn additional house
points for their team. Parents are responsible to review the Student Handbook and School Code
of Conduct both of which are attached. The signature page must be handed in by
Friday, September 7, 2018.
Thank
you. I cannot wait to meet each student and their families.
