It's Friday!
Reminder - Wednesday is photo day AND the BBQ!

I am so blessed to be teaching at The Maples Academy and working with such fine, professional, dedicated teachers and admin.

I am s-l-o-w-l-y getting to know the names of my students. I know all the girls and a few of the boys. Give me another week.....

We dove right into curriculum content with a daily morning message, poem of the week, calendar wall information that covers literacy in Math, Social Studies, Science and Language Arts. The students are getting used to the template they use daily and our student-of-the-day is busy supplying the data and words.

We worked with our spelling list only two times this week because it was a four day week. The students are recognizing short 'a' words and listing them according to beginning or middle sounds.


Today, we made lists of things we take to the beach. We listed 12 items. They chose two, three or four... or more. 



Every day, we are discussing rules. We will move on to responsibilities and key community workers who make every town, city, and facility function.

We are sorting and patterning in Math with shapes, food, and animals.

Good afternoon!

We are writing information on our calendar worksheets every day and getting faster and better.


Today, our class drew pictures of rules that we discussed for the class and school. They are now on display in the hall above our hooks and bins.

Later, we did sorting of socks, words, and wild/farm animals. This will take several days. That's okay.

I am enjoying seeing fruit, veggies, sandwiches, pasta, juices and other healthy foods at snacks and lunch time. These are preferable to chocolate, cookies, chips, jello, and brownies.

Good afternoon, parents and guardians!

We had a busy day working on our Calendar Wall. My students are helping each other with the words and numbers. 

We shared our idea of what our rules look like in the class and on the playground.

We also did some patterning. Can you guess the patterns in the snake?

Later, we talked about nouns - what are they, where are they and what is for dinner and dessert.

Celebrating our first day at The Maples Academy!

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting 14 students in Grade 1.  

I had so much fun with your children today! We started our Calendar Wall lesson. Every student has an orange duo-tang with a worksheet they will fill in every morning. We didn’t get far today, but look out! By October, we will be pros!

In our Unit Of Inquiry – Who We Are – we shared what rules are, why we have them, and how and where we follow them in the school and classroom.

After Gym, we started our Spelling Lesson, reviewing the words of the week, reading them, and writing them.

Later, we worked in our agendas. Our day flew quickly and we are all ready for tomorrow!
